In golf, a “blind hole” refers to a shot where the player cannot see the fairway or green where the ball is expected to land. While fairly common on golf courses, these types of holes present a significant safety risk: hitting blindly means a golfer could unintentionally strike another player ahead, without any visual warning. This creates uncertainty and the potential for avoidable accidents.

Traditionally, the solution has been to place a bell or sound signal in the blind area. Players who have passed through can ring it to let others know the path is clear. However, this system relies entirely on player memory and cooperation, and is not always dependable.

At the National Golf Center in Madrid, which features one of these blind holes, we proposed an innovative alternative: using live video streaming to ensure player safety. The solution is simple yet highly effective. As golfers arrive at the hole, they are met with a QR code that they can scan with their mobile phones. This gives them access to a real-time video stream of the area where their ball is likely to land, allowing them to confirm the space is clear before taking their shot.

We were able to implement this solution quickly thanks to our cloud-based video streaming platform (Azzulei). Its modular, flexible architecture allowed us to create a custom solution tailored to the needs of the course. The result combines safety, simplicity, and smart technology with an intuitive user experience.

Beyond golf, this case highlights how technology can address real-world challenges in practical, impactful ways—especially in environments where visibility and coordination between individuals may be limited.
